What's the difference between a blog and a website?
If you've ever wondered what the difference between a website and blog, then this is the video for YOU!
One of the most common questions I get asked from beginners is...
What's the difference between a website and a blog?
The short answer is nothing.
Technically, speaking a blog is just a page on a website. So, sometimes they are used interchangeably.
The main difference is really just the layout or format.
A blog is a just section of the website that is updated on a regular basis and normally is presented in a chronologic order with an area for other people to comment. Blogs tend to be a little more casual and conversational, although that is not always the case.
A few years ago a blog was just a place where everyday average people wrote about their lives, like an online diary of sorts. And the main purpose was for people to read those blog posts. There were just a few supporting pages like the about page and a contact page. Overall, they were pretty simple.
Those types of blogs still exist, but now it's more common for a website to have a blog as a part of the website but not really be the main focus.
Now "bloggers" have a full website that doesn't just rely on putting out content. A lot of bloggers are offering products and services now, which is allowing them to make an income from their blog.
For business owners, what you really want is a website with a blog.
As a whole, your website will allow people to get to know you, learn about your services and products, find out how to work with you, and the blog portion will help your business grow and gain visibility.
Having a blog on your website is really good for Search Engine Optimization because Google sees that new content, and it helps you build a foundation of searchable articles. Because you end up writing about a lot of topics.
There are a lot of good reasons to have a blog on your website, which is totally a video for another day! I'll add that to my list!
I hope that clears up any questions you might have had about the difference. Basically, a blog is a website, but not all websites have a blog.
